As we are encouraging new players to join the Survivor Hamilton family, and past players to share the news with their friends/family that another season of our favourite game is about to begin, we thought it would be beneficial to ask & answer some timely questions, to help you determine whether to play. (Though the answer is obviously yes, no matter who you are.)
What is Survivor Hamilton all about?
It’s a very simple game wherein you get placed in a tribe, compete as a team to answer skill-testing and problem-solving questions, vote eachother out of the game periodically, and build alliances to protect yourself and get further in the game.
How long does the game last?
It depends on how many players we start with, but in general, with 2 eliminations per week this season and let’s say, 24 players, the game would last 3 glorious months. Given what’s happening this year so far, they will be the best months of 2020.
What if I don’t know anybody in the game?
The whole point of Survivor Hamilton is to create social interactions via your computer and phone, and in this season we will introduce optional video conferencing to help build connections at the beginning of the game, and during Tribal Councils. Trust me, nothing brings people closer together than joining an alliance and back-stabbing the other players. And, what, you’ve never met a new person before?
Is Survivor Hamilton only for friends of Mike Hamilton?
NO OF COURSE NOT. We welcome any and all players, no matter your age, ethnicity, sexual orientation, familiarity with Survivor, or your like/dislike of Mike Hamilton. In fact, so much of the fun of the game is interacting with people you may not meet in your everyday life, and building that strategy to get to the end together. It’s also been true that knowing MH well can sometimes put a target on your back!
Is Survivor Hamilton very time-consuming? (Alternatively: Will Survivor Hamilton take over my life?)
The answer is “it depends”. For many, the thrill of going to Tribal Council, or the eagerness to perform well in Immunity Challenges brings a level of excitement to the week that little else provides. The game isn’t hard, but building alliances to get yourself farther in the game by besting other alliances does take time. Some players take a more passive approach which can work just as well. In fact, last season we saw a very active and two quite passive players in our Final 3. Just like real Survivor, your effort level is up to you. You will at least be required to vote as many as 2 times per week and keep an eye out for updates and twists. Your host will personally help you maintain a certain level of engagement with the important stuff, but the attention you put on the game is up to you.
When I looked at the Registration page, I noticed you asked for personal contact info – What gives?
The reason we ask for your email and phone number is so that your host, MH, can help you get settled in the game, send important information, and so that you can submit your challenge responses and votes in a timely manner. It will be up to you if you want to share your email/phone with other players. Your host will not even reveal your last name – as you’ll go by your first name only.
Is there a Prize for the winner?
The answer right now is a big maybe. Previous players have mentioned that they would pay to play Survivor Hamilton, and if so, we’d use the majority of that amount to pay out the winner, and some for the cost of the Survivor Hamilton website. Once we determine who will be playing, your host will send out a survey and we can determine the path forward. The real prize is bragging rights, the feeling of beating 20+ other competitors, and the legendary status that defines a Survivor Hamilton winner.
Will I make new friends?
Yes, you will make new friends, and who doesn’t want more friends? Unless you are voted out first (ahem, Jon), in which case we’re sorry in advance.
Will I make new enemies?
Look, after watching your game come crumbling down after spending weeks building a meticulous strategy, you are likely to take it personally. The great thing is that there’s always another chance to play, and we’ve not seen hurt feelings last more than a week. Besides, what’s wrong with a good rivalry?
Can I join Survivor Hamilton with other people I know?
Yes please.
How is Survivor Hamilton different than CBS’ Survivor?
You don’t go to an island. There are no bugs. Your Jeff Probst has a beard. You don’t have to sleep in the sand, spooning with strangers. You can back-stab people without having to look them in the eye afterwards. You can play in the comfort of your own home (which is where we all are anyway.) And most importantly, you can still eat whatever you want (which is what we’re all doing right now anyways.)
How will Survivor Hamilton: Old Meets Now be different than previous seasons?
The changes are simple. There will be 2 eliminations per week rather than 1. The challenges will be logic and problem-solving puzzles posted on the website that you’ll need to work together to answer correctly. There will be reward challenges to dole out advantages in the game to worthy winners.
Should I sign up?
YES you should have.
