Continuing on from our last post, Dave, Graham and Sasha had all been voted out, and had been awaiting another challenge to help them determine where they would be ending up. Kobara, Nevala and Ulloo all had their advantages and disadvantages respective to each player, so winning this challenge would be of utmost importance.

As most of you know, we did need to have two versions of this challenge. On the first try, someone used a strategy of sabotage, spamming Graham’s phone with private calls to get hims out of rhythm and take use of his phone away, when using the phone was necessary for the challenge. While this wasn’t outright against the rules as they were set out, it did go against the spirit of fairness that I try to maintain throughout the game. Graham did not have an even chance to compete for the challenge that was only meant to be between he, Dave and Sasha – so it was decided to re-do the challenge today.

It must be noted that I very much respect the attempt from players to sabotage Graham. When your back is up against the wall, many players will do whatever it takes to advance, or give themselves a better chance to succeed in the game. That being said, the opportunity to make your mark in the game is meant to be at Tribal Council. The challenges are meant to give each player the opportunity to individually make an impact on their tribes, and the votes are the chance to build trust in alliances and vote out your “enemies”. Remember that if you want to get ahead, it’s your responsibility to convince people to VOTE with you. If you can’t convince them, then that typically means you’re going to lose.

Which is OK! 28 players are going to be voted out of this game, and every single one of them will have a unique path to get there. The Tribe Swap, and then this twist do make their impacts, but the reason why many ex-Nevala players are in trouble now is because they lost 7 of the first 8 challenges. This meant that most of their potential allies are sitting on the sidelines, and of course they are going to be outnumbered by Kobara players. That’s reality and sometimes your game just runs out. There’s no shame in that!

So let’s get to the challenge today. Here’s the question that Dave, Graham and Sasha received:

This was a very straightforward question, and as such the answers all came in super fast one after the other as you’d expect. The answer was Rachel, and the first correct response came from…

Now Sasha would get the choice to either re-join Ulloo, make the move back to Nevala, or complete the tribal triumvirate by heading to Kobara. She had found herself (along with Ruth) in the bottom of the pack on Ulloo, so going back would certainly mean that she would face tough times. But Ulloo had also been showing their toughness in the challenges since the swap. So Sasha decided to join back up with Ruth on Ulloo!

So now it was just down to Dave and Graham to select between Kobara and Nevala. The second place finisher in this challenge was…

This would likely not be too hard of a decision for Graham. He had convinced Nevala to vote him out to give him the chance to join either Kobara and Ulloo after he found himself outside of Nevala’s biggest alliance. So going back to Nevala would make the previous vote a waste of time! So he joined Kobara.

That left poor Dave, who had already been through so many tough Tribal Councils, to go back to ground zero on the Nevala Tribe. Here’s how Nevala looks now:

So now we have our final versions of these 3 groups of players, who will each need to push their challenge performances and personal connections to new levels if they hope to make the Merge. No one knows exactly when it’s going to happen, but making the Merge (and the Jury) is a major goal for players of this game. Good luck everybody.
