Week 1: Immunity Challenge

Greetings Survivor fans! Each week, the 1st post will check in on Fuego and Hielo at camp, as well as present the Immunity Challenge in its entirety. The losing tribe will then have until Friday night to provide their votes for Saturday’s Tribal Council. Let’s get into it.

Hielo beach
Fresh of a comeback performance in the season’s inaugural challenge, the victors arrived at Hielo beach in high spirits, not at all tired from carrying their bounty of supplies over the hour long trek. Paul was the first to round the corner and shouted “We’re home” to joyous applause from his very excited crowd of tribemates. After getting introductions over with, the tribe set to division of labour.

Cowin volunteered to lead the building of the shelter, and with some of the tools they had won earlier in the day, chopping of wood by David and stripping of palm leaves by Chelsea was taking no time at all. Tyler, Greg, and Elliott were heading back and forth into the woods to gather logs and sticks for the shelter, while Cait prepped an area for an eventual fire. In fact, everyone was working so well, it was almost as if no one was thinking about the fact that there could be a Hidden Immunity Idol somewhere nearby.

Fuego beachDespite the narrow defeat and the fact that they had no food and no supplies, Fuego was in good spirits as they neared Fuego beach. Knowing that night would be upon them in a few hours, Rebecca volunteered to share some of her outdoor survival experience with the rest of the tribe. Though work began right away, it was clear that this would be a long night and they wouldn’t be able to make a suitable shelter before dark. This encouraged some tribemates like Peter and Stevie to really dive in and help, but some of the more “strategic” folks were clearly thinking about more than just shelter.

Iain offered to fill water jugs, but was gone for quite some time. Meg was walking down by the water looking up and down the beach, while Jon and Jordan were eyeing eachother warily from across what would eventually be their camp. Everyone was putting on happy faces, but the game had clearly started at Fuego.

Come on in guys! It’s time for our first Immunity Challenge of the season. The winning tribe will be safe for the week, while the losing tribe will head to Tribal Council where somebody will be the FIRST person voted out of Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice.

Ten members of each tribe run an obstacle course with 3 stages. First, they will race under low netting, then along a narrow balance beam one at a time, and then up a very tall wall where they will need to lift and boost each other up. Once all ten runners are up on the wall, the two remaining puzzle solvers must complete a large 3D spinning tiki puzzle. The puzzle solvers will be Meg and Bryan for Fuego, and Chelsea and Greg from Hielo.

So with Fuego and Hielo lined up side by side, the challenge began and they were off! Cait was the first to reach the net, with Alex right behind her. On the Fuego side, Peter got there first but his long limbs got caught in the netting and kept his tribe behind him. Claudia got her ankle tangled, and Stevie stumbled right out of the gate, so nothing was going right. Hielo almost had everyone through the first stage easily, before Peter was even halfway through.

On the balance beam, Hielo was keeping calm and collected as Cait crossed, then Alex, then Cowin and Stef. Elliott stumbled off twice, and Jonathan once, but other than that it was smooth sailing. They had everyone over and running towards the 10 foot wall, just as Claudia was finally out from under the net, allowing Graham to start on the balance beam. He passed on his first try, and so did Iain, but Luke fell off, and fell off again, putting them farther behind.

At the wall, Cowin got down on his hands and knees, with David getting on his back like a two person pyramid, making it very easy for the others to scramble up. It would have been great for Fuego to see Hielo’s strategy, but they were still dealing with the balance beam as Stevie stumbled for her second time. Hielo’s only hiccup on the wall was Paul stepping on Cowin’s hand, and then David’s hand too, and soon they were up and Chelsea and Greg were free to start their puzzle.

Back at the balance beam Fuego was just waiting on Jordan, who despite talking a big game, was on his 5th attempt at crossing. Finally he made it, and the exhausted and frustrated Fuego would need to work together to get up the wall as fast as possible and give Meg & Bryan a chance. Unfortunately, it soon became clear that strong teamwork was exclusive to Hielo. Chris started by trying to toss Claudia up, which didn’t work as she fell hard. Graham and Jordan were doing some weird hugging thing, while Luke was standing off on the side doing who knows what.

Up at the Hielo puzzle, Chelsea and Greg were making it look easy. They clearly had a rythym and would soon be done. Peter had used his gigantic wingspan to clamber up and pull Rebecca up after him, but that would be it for Fuego as Chelsea placed the final piece for Hielo and…

HIELO WINS IMMUNITY and with it, safety from this week’s vote. Fuego, you know what that means, one of you will have the dubious honor of being the first person voted out of Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice.

So here’s how Tribal Council works. The Fuego tribe, that is all 12 castaways, will be required to text their host with their vote in the form of the name of the person you are voting out of the game. Your host must receive your vote by 11:59pm on Friday night, and please don’t wait until 11:59pm on Friday night. Only one vote will be accepted, so no changing once a vote is submitted, but you are free to discuss your options and standing in the game with your host. On Saturday there will be a Tribal Council post where someone will be eliminated, and some details about the vote may or may not be revealed. We’ve got to make this enjoyable for everyone reading along, so don’t expect your votes to remain secret. Plus everyone in real Survivor knows who voted for who, so its more realistic than a bunch of secret alliances.

Leave your questions and comments below. And by the way, Hielo absolutely dominated Fuego in this challenge. Check out the RANKINGS page and see how all the castaways are performing on average in Immunity Challenges. It’s only been one week, so the results are currently very telling.

  1. Great work team! I nominate Cowin and Dave for resting tonight with ice on their hands 😉 – they’ve earned it!

      1. Sorry Pete, Silas taught us all about game theory!

We have to find someone to target in order to free all the prisoners from the island.

It might start getting personal, but don’t hate the playa, hate the game. Hence why they call it “game theory”

(I didn’t write that other comment, it was too generic)

  2. Great work ❄️❄️❄️!!

I’m sure it was an “accident” wasn’t Paul?!? 🤔 Not trying to cripple some of your team mates already are you?! Haha
