Week 3: Immunity Challenge

Last week on Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice… An epic showdown on stormy seas saw Fuego upset Hielo in the season’s second Immunity Challenge. At Tribal Council we had another showdown as Elliott survived a tie-breaker and David became the 2nd person voted out of the game.

Hielo beach
After an exhausting night at Tribal Council, Hielo was relieved to escape the wind and rain into their well-crafted shelters. What had seemed the perfect tribe a week ago as they worked together to clean up and make their beach livable, now seemed downright miserable. With half the tribe voting for Elliott, and Elliott waking up right next to them, it was also awkward for some. He didn’t make it easier on them either, as he often spoke in riddles and memes. For some on Hielo, it was getting to be too much. Elliott would need to perform in the challenge, or he would again be a target.

Some on the tribe had targeted David though, and since he had gone home, their plan worked, and all they had to worry about was immunity.

Fuego beach
After winning the last challenge, Fuego was fired up! Hielo had been acting as if they were unstoppable after one Immunity win, so when Rebecca’s shot had gone in, what deflated Hielo had equally inflated Fuego’s sense that they could compete in these Immunity Challenges. This profound sense of self-worth even got the tribe to work together to get things done around camp. They had fire from the torches already, but now they a rickety bamboo bed that sagged in the middle. Could Fuego continue their momentum in this week’s Immunity Challenge?

The Stakes Have Been Raised
Come on in guys! Are you ready to get to another Immunity Challenge? In this challenge, 2 members of each tribe will be callers, while the remaining 9 will be blindfolded individually, moving around a large open pen attempting to locate a puzzle piece each. There will be many obstacles in the way, making calling very difficult and finding a dangerous affair! One caller will be at the starting position, while the other will be at the end, by the large square frame where the puzzle pieces will fit. As the pieces are found, the blindfolded will attempt to bring their pieces to the puzzle frame, and with the assistance of the second caller, place their pieces until all 9 are placed correctly, winning Immunity for their tribe.

The callers are: Cait and Chelsea for Hielo, and Jordan and Stevie for FuegoFor Immunity, Survivors ready? Go!

It was mayhem from the start. Everyone yelling over everyone, people bumping into eachother, and all the obstacles. This would be a fun one. As her 9 Hielo charges set off into the pen, Chelsea decided to choose one person at a time and guide them to the closer blue puzzle pieces. As Cait called out to Cowin who was nearing the first piece, Luke bumped right into him, falling down on his rear. Cowin collected the first piece, he began to head towards the sound of Cait’s voice from the other end of the pen. Jordan had also guided Bryan to a piece, but Elliott grabbed it first, despite Chelsea’s protests. Bryan was able to wrestled it from Elliott, and he headed towards Stevie and Fuego’s puzzle frame.

Stuck in the middle of the pen bumping tangled up with eachother were Greg and Chris. They were each trying to get where they thought a piece was, but it was right behind them, making all their efforts fruitless. Jordan was screaming his lungs out at Graham who seemed a bit clueless out there, as Stef joined Cowin at the Hielo puzzle, where he had just placed their first piece. Rebecca was able to find a piece, but she was also able to get herself stuck in a corner, and Tyler crotched himself on the corner of a box!

yell

As Alex placed the 3rd piece in Hielo’s puzzle with Cait’s frantic help, Bryan finally placed Fuego’s first piece, though Peter wasn’t far behind. Iain decided to hold onto Paul’s leg and not let him go anywhere. Meg wrestled with Silas over a piece that neither of them were sure was theirs. Stevie quickly helped Peter place Fuego’s second piece, followed by Claudia who managed to escape the pen no worse for wear. Fuego and Hielo were tied with 3 pieces placed, as Jonathan picked himself off the ground and started running to Cait’s voice. Shockingly, he missed all the obstacles in the pen at full sprint, and it made quite a sight.

Meg and Paul each placed a piece, with Stevie and Cait making quick work of explaining where the pieces went, and with Jonathan’s piece placed too, it was 5-4 Hielo. Iain, who Paul had been dragging most of the way, also grabbed a piece and was able to place it in the frame, just as Tyler and Silas finally made it out of the pen, hand in hand, guiding eachother softly.

At some point in all the madness, Chris and Elliott had found eachother and were not letting go. It was possible they both realized this would ensure it came down to one-on-one, and those were odds they would take. It was also possible they each had no plan, and that all they were doing was guaranteeing one of them would lose Immunity for their tribe. As Silas, Graham, Greg, Luke, and Rebecca each fit their pieces into the puzzle, and with Chelsea and Jordan’s voices completely shot, Chris and Elliott finally separated to attempt to locate and place their pieces.

Cait called out to Elliott to come to her voice, as Hielo’s final piece was right in front of her, but Fuego’s final piece was on the other end of the pen from their puzzle. While Chris seemed determine to get to his piece, Elliott seemed to be goofing off. He was walking slowly, and spinning around, playing with the dirt, pretty much anything you could do in the pen EXCEPT grabbing the final puzzle piece and putting it in the puzzle. Chris meanwhile just couldn’t seem to hear his callers over all the yelling still going on. Hielo was all yelling to distract him as well, as Fuego’s piece was harder to find.

Eventually Elliott gave up his games and followed Cait’s yelling to the almost-complete Hielo puzzle, but as he got close, Chris bowled into him. He had grabbed Fuego’s final piece, and was running at full speed when he hit Elliott, so they both fell. Unfortunately for Chris, when he got up, he kept running, and ran right back into the pen, toppling over a beam. Elliott dusted himself off, went over to the puzzle frame, and with Cait’s patient guidance, placed the final piece, meaning that…
