Week 5: Immunity Challenge

Last week on Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice… After a blindside at Fuego’s Tribal Council, Hielo hoped to avoid any drama today and for all days in the future by voting out Cowin.

Hielo beachAfter sending Cowin home at the last Tribal Council, half of Hielo was feeling relieved. Tensions seemed to cool, and the game seemed to begin again at Hielo beach. It had been a landslide vote, with only 2 votes going towards an annoyed Stef, but that didn’t mean the 8 that voted for Cowin were completely happy with it. His constant shenanigans had rubbed some people the wrong way, but Cowin was an ally to some, and a big target. And as we know, big targets leave a whole that can only be filled by a new big target. But who would it be?

Up to this point in the game, Cait and Cowin had been the top performers in Immunity Challenges, but with Cowin gone, Cait was going to be relied on a lot more heavily. But as we also know, being great at challenges is good for a tribe, but once we get to the merge, how will the top bracket of challenge beasts fare? Another intangible was experience with the game. Who really knows the most about Survivor strategy, who can be used as a vote, and which castaways form the strongest bonds in the game? These were all things to be discovered over time, if time is what you have…

Fuego beachFuego was glad to have the week off after the wild Tribal Council in Week 3 that ended in a blindside of Iain. Chris was still salty that his brother was voted out, but had shown up big time to help his tribe with Immunity, and had been working to mend any fences that needed it. In fact, this time off was an opportunity for the tribe to get to know one-another, and they weren’t wasting any time. Graham decided to fashion a ukulele out of wood and the strings that had wrapped last week’s Hidden Advantage. It sounded terrible, but the ladies didn’t mind. Meg started rhyming off good things about the rest of the tribe, such as Peter, you have great long arms! and Luke, you annoy me less than before.

Just then, the devil himself burst forth from the foliage with a bundle in his arms demanding to know where Stevie was. I’ve got a surprise! He said, but Fuego had seen Luke’s surprises before and were alarmed at the sheer potential of what this could mean. Upon locating Stevie, Luke told her that they had had an island baby, and now they must raise it together. Confused, because she was certain that she had never given birth, Stevie carefully took the bundle that a beaming Luke was excited to give her. She was not surprised when their lovechild turned out to be a bag of rice with a coconut head, but Luke went on and on about it for so long that eventually the stupid thing was accepted by Fuego and they called it ‘Lil Flamer, and then I got on with the rest of the post.

Come on in guys! Are you ready to get to another Immunity Challenge. First thing first, Fuego, I’ll take it back – Holy crap I never chose an Immunity totem for this season! Well here it is. You’ve both won it twice, and now its up for grabs again.

For this challenge, 5 teams of 2 from each tribe will go head to head, in knee-deep water, collecting a ball and trying to score in your respective net. Full contact of course. The first tribe to score 3 will win Immunity, and safety from tomorrow’s Tribal Council. The losing tribe? Another date with me, where one of you WILL become the 5th person voted out of Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice. I’ll let you strategize and we’ll get started.

Ok, the first pairs will Stevie & Peter and Greg & Silas.

With neither tribe clear on strategy at this point, all 4 castaways simply rushed the ball, with Silas getting there first, but Peter immediately wrapping him up. The ball squirted lose to be picked up by Greg who took a huge wind-up and tossed the ball towards the orange Fuego net! Luckily for Hielo, Greg’s throw was terrible. Unluckily for Hielo, Stevie was a speed demon and outraced everyone to the ball, giving it a cheeky toss into the nearby orange net to put Fuego up 1-0.

In the next matchup, Meg & Bryan took on the challenge-beasts Cait & Alex. Well Fuego picked a poor time to fall asleep out there, because Meg and Bryan just seemed to be sleepy out there, while Cait and Alex were ON. Though Bryan had reached the ball at roughly the same time as Cait, he missed it completely and ended up with a bunch of water up his nose. Meanwhile, Meg had noticed what looked like a cat on the nearby beach, and was panicking about what was more important, this game that everyone is working so hard on, or THAT CAT, but it didn’t matter because Cait tossed the ball to Alex, who scored for Hielo, tying it up 1-1.

Eager to break the tie were Claudia & Rebecca and Elliott & Stef. Claudia and Rebecca had been rebounding nicely in the Immunity Challenges after horrid starts, while Elliott’s performances had been going in the wrong direction. Stef wasn’t worried however, because she was right up there with the challenge leaders and she would pull Elliott along if she had to. Well turns out she did have to, and it still wasn’t enough as Claudia & Rebecca continued their winning ways, thumping Hielo to take a 2-1 lead for Fuego!

This could be it! Chelsea & Tyler hoped to pull out a win to keep Hielo in it, but they were facing the unlikely pair of Luke & Jordan. It was no secret that Luke had been showing signs of jealousy towards Jordan. He had this sweet life, and Luke, self-employed from Whitby, wanted a slice of it! Was that why he wanted an island child so badly? So that he could prove he was successful at something at least? Well the baby was rice, and Luke and Jordan could not overcome their differences to perform competently at a simple game of grab and throw a ball, so Chelsea and Tyler tied it up 2-2.

So this is it, Immunity and safety in Week 5 would come down to Graham & Chris vs Paul & Jonathan. At first glance, the size difference was remarkable, at second, even more so, as Chris and Graham towered over Paul & Jonathan. But after all , Survivor Hamilton was a game of speed, not strength so anyone had a chance.

So the last matchup began, with Chris and Graham running for the ball, and Paul & Jonathan staying back to guard the orange net. As Chris neared the net, ball in hand, Jonathan was looking nervous. But as Chris wound up to throw the ball, Jonathan got a sudden look of determination and leaped into the air, saving the game for Hielo in the process. His moment of jubilation was quashed however when Graham launched into him, knocking the wind out of Jonathan. Paul tried to grab the ball, but Chris lifted and tossed him aside, leaving the net clear for Chris to take a second shot. This one would not miss, and that means FUEGO WINS IMMUNITY and safety from tomorrow’s Tribal Council.

So Hielo, we meet again. Please have your votes to me by 8pm tomorrow (Friday) at the latest. Good luck!
