Week 6: Immunity Challenge

Last week on Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice… After Hielo lost their second Immunity Challenge in a row, Greg followed Cowin out the door in a near-unanimous vote.

Hielo beach

It was a strange time to be a Hielo, because everyone wanted to be nice to eachother and pretend that everything was ok. But everything was not ok. The sky wouldn’t always be Hielo blue, the sun wouldn’t always be shining, and one day the backrubs would finally be rubbed out. But it was not this day, because there were enough backrubs for everyone! Despite the blazing fire simmering under the icy cool surface, the tribe kept rubbing eachother and pretending to be best of friends.

Because the tribe was split. As we saw in the last vote, Stef received 3 votes against and desperately wanted to know who had voted for her. She had built strong bonds with the other women in the tribe, Cait, Alex & Chelsea, as well as Silas and his dearly departed David. That left a small group who appeared to be gunning for her, but why was she a target in the first place? Was it that the remaining guys were starting to fear the dreaded “all-girls alliance”? I mean the 4 women had been killing it at the challenges so far, so maybe there could be some truth to that.

Fuego beach

Over at Fuego beach, their own fiery tension had cooled because winning Immunity can do wonders for your psyche, and Chris had started to feel less paranoid of his tribemates. Having your own brother voted out will certainly only hurt your game, so there was some rebounding necessary. His strategy was a strange one though. Instead of working to rebuild relationships, Chris decided to spend all his time in the woods. Sometimes Luke would bring ‘Lil Flamer around to visit, and a time or two Graham and Jordan brought him some food, but for the most part, Chris lived alone. This was ok with Chris, because he was out of sight, and therefore, by logic, he must be out of mind. Safe.

Back at camp, life continued on at a snail’s pace. Who could have thought a game with only one Immunity Challenge and Tribal Council per week could take so looooong? There were a number of activities that Fuego had created to kill the time. Peter and Jordan took turns hoisting Bryan up into trees to gather coconuts. Meg and Stevie herded jungle cats. Chris was out there digging holes, and Rebecca was working on fishing with some nets they had scavenged from one of the challenges. It was activity central at Fuego, but alas, the pure pleasure of productivity would need to end.

Come on in guys! Fuego, getting your first look at HieloGreg voted out at Tribal Council last week. Ready to get to today’s Immunity Challenge? First things first, Fuego, gotta take it back. Stevie reluctantly walked over and gave back the Immunity statue.

This week’s Immunity Challenge will see each team maneuvering a large, heavy-ass cart through an obstacle course. Along the way, the tribes need to climb up 3 ladders to retrieve a 3 keys to unlock treasure chests containing puzzle pieces under the ladders, and then place them on the cart. Once three chests are collected, the teams will reach a pass-through (think big fence with holes), where they have to disassemble the wagon, transfer the pieces and chests to the other side, reassemble, and get the cart to a mat. Once there, the chests are moved to platforms and puzzle pieces are removed. The first team to finish their puzzle wins immunity, the losing tribe goes to Tribal Council this Friday.

Fuego, you have one extra member, gotta sit someone out, who’s it gonna be? Bryan, sitting out this challenge.

Survivors ready… Go!

Fuego and Hielo are more-or-less even as they work their way through the course, pushing the heavy cart, with Hielo in the slight lead. Shooting up the first ladder, Silas grabbed the first key, tossing it down to Chelsea to get started on the first locked-up chest. On the Fuego cart, Jordan lept for the ladder, but he missed, falling straight on his butt. Stevie clambered up to retrieve the key, but Hielo was already on their way to the second ladder. With Claudia struggling to unlock the chest, Alex started climbing, reaching the second key with ease.

In fact, Hielo reached the pass-through while Fuego struggled at the second ladder and just couldn’t seem to work together. Luke and Chris were pushing the cart almost single-handedly because everyone else somehow kept falling off. Rebecca had twisted her ankle ages ago, Peter kept tripping over literally nothing, and Jordan was just useless. Hielo had sent four members over the wall to pull their wagon pieces through as the other 5 disassembled and passed them through. It’s like clockwork! Cait exclaimed with glee through the holey wall to Stef, who decried I’m having so much fun! and Elliott said Ow my head as Jonathan whacked him with a wagon beam.

Things literally fell apart for Fuego as they struggled big-time with the pass-through. Three times they tried to pass their chests through upside down, causing all the puzzle pieces to fall out and eating up valuable time. You would think Peter would learn his lesson after it happened the first time, but no, it happens a second time, and a third by Jordan. By the time they got half their pieces through, Stef had begun the puzzle for Hielo. Stevie was just itching to get to Fuego’s puzzle, and Meg was working wildly to reassemble Fuego’s cart, but this week Hielo was just too much as Stef placed the final puzzle piece and HIELO WINS IMMUNITY and safety from Tribal Council, sending Fuego back, where someone will become the sixth person voted out of Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice.

As a reminder Fuego, all your votes will be required by 8pm EST tomorrow (Friday) evening.
