Week 7: Immunity Challenge

Last week on Survivor Hamilton: Fire & Ice… Tensions finally reached their boiling point with 3 different people receiving votes and ultimately Chris was voted out of Fuego.

Fuego beach

In their last two visits to Tribal Council, Fuego had voted out a Pitman. First, the majority blindsided Iain, and then after rebuilding Chris‘ trust, they blindsided him! It was vintage Survivor strategy, and was proving that there was excellent gameplay on both tribes. But as we’re also seeing on Hielo, voting out a big player with a big target on them leaves a vacancy. It was now in everyone’s best interest to blend in, not rock the boat, and do anything but put a target on their own back.

Some folks like Rebecca and Jordan just stayed busy, working around camp, attempting to maintain their usefulness as they had been struggling in the challenges. Luke was literally blending in because he was wearing only leaves, and stayed in the bushes, never straying onto the beach where he may be noticed. Meg and Stevie were strategically taking some time apart is if people would forget they were friends, and Bryan just decided to stay in the water. If he stayed in the water, he definitely wasn’t looking for an idol, and he definitely wasn’t talking strategy.

At a time like this, with a majority clearly established by the vote results the past few weeks, could those on the outside looking in survive another week?

Hielo beach

Over at Hielo beach, the fractured tribe had been coming together again after a few weeks at Tribal had split them apart. Despite having some of the most best performers in the game, they couldn’t find a way to win consistently, and they would need to get to the bottom of it. Looking statistically, it was clear that Elliott was lagging behind the rest of the tribe when it came to immunity. Clearly he was still around after 3 tribals so he was doing something right, but would his luck finally run out?

Paul was in the middle of the pack overall, but was second last to Elliott when it came to Immunity performance on the tribe. Anything that makes you stand out can be a bad thing, so Paul made extra sure to talk with everyone else on the tribe to ensure his own safety, hoping it would be enough to get him through another week, should they go to Tribal. Could these 2 keep the targets off of them? Let’s find out.

Alright, Hielo, getting your first look at the new Fuego tribe, Chris voted out at last week’s Tribal Council. For today’s challenge, one by one, you’re going to swim to a large a-frame floating on top of the water, once over you’ll then dive down to untie a buoy, bringing it to the platform at the end, where once all 8 are collected, one tribe member will shoot them into a basket. First tribe to score 8 baskets will be safe from tomorrow’s Tribal Council, while the loser will be voting out the 7th person from the game. Ready to get started?

Going first for Hielo was Tyler, with Bryan from Fuego. Jordan and Elliott will be shooting buoys for their tribes, hoping to close it out and reverse their own reputations from previous challenges. And as the challenge started, it was looking like it was going to be a close one.

Tyler and Bryan were neck and neck over the obstacle, both diving down and retrieving buoys on their first dive, allowing Stevie and Cait to start. While Cait was by no means slow, Stevie pulled away, giving Fuego a slight lead. Peter was able to maintain the lead by outswimming Jonathan, and it continued like this with both tribes performing ahead of expectations, until we got to Paul.

Despite swimming well and climbing up and sliding down the a-frame in normal time, Paul was gassed. He would need to dive down about 6-8 feet to retrieve his buoy, but he just couldn’t get enough breath to make it. Tyler and Chelsea were yelling encouragement, but he just needed time to catch his breath. The problem was that the time he needed just dragged on.

One by one, Fuego passed him, until Meg retrieved their 8th buoy, giving Jordan a chance to start draining threes. He had already hit 2, when Paul dove down for his 10th try, reaching and reaching to get to his buoy. As Hielo looked on, a blue buoy popped up followed by an exhausted boy, who tried to make his way to the platform to allow Alex to dive in and attempt to catch up.

Jordan had sunk 5 baskets before Silas finally retrieved Hielo’s 8th buoy, giving Elliott a chance to be a hero for his tribe. Unfortunately, Elliott couldn’t even manage to hit one, as Jordan sunk his 8th buoy, winning 8-0 meaning that FUEGO WINS IMMUNITY and safety from tomorrow’s Tribal Council.

Hielo, please have your votes in by 8pm tomorrow (Friday). This week’s Tribal Council episode will be posted Saturday morning as I have plans Friday night. Sorry for the inconvenience.
