Greetings friends, acquaintances and strangers, and welcome to SurvivorHamilton.ca, the home of the improbably enduring Survivor Hamilton online reality game show. For closing in on 20 years(!) our game has been played and has evolved, modernizing with each new iteration, as we continually welcome new members to the Survivor Hamilton family and embrace new technologies.

This season, formally titled “Old Meets New” will continue this evolution, bringing SH veterans together with first time players to compete for the ultimate glory of Sole Survivor Hamilton. In a time of mass physical distancing and home quarantine, we decided early 2020 was the perfect time for another season of your most favourite (and sometimes frustrating) distraction, and we couldn’t be more excited for what lies ahead.

More information will continue to trickle out until the game formally begins in early May 2020, but we are able to provide some preliminary details for those that have already registered, those that are considering registering, and those that found somehow themselves here by accident. The building blocks of Survivor Hamilton will still be there:
1. You will still be placed into tribes, and get to know eachother via web, text, WhatsApp, and other social media tools at your disposal
2. Your tribe will still compete to solve challenges posted on the website, with the winning tribe safe, and the other heading to Tribal Council to vote out one of their own via secure messaging with your host
3. You will still visit SurvivorHamilton.ca as your main source of information during the season – so subscribe now!

There are some new ideas however, that we feel will add a lot to the game in terms of visibility and human connection:
1. The challenges will require more tribal coordination and problem-solving, so keeping an eye on the instructions will be super important, as will be working together to send in your answers as instructed
2. We will try to incorporate video chat and live streaming where possible, but ensure that its never mandatory to attend a session. Examples include being introduced to your tribe via a Webex session, reading the votes live via Instagram or Zoom, and having short video interviews with voted-out players and posting them on the site
3. We’d like to include short 5-10 second videos on the Player Page of each contestant, introducing them to everyone else, and adding a layer of personality
4. We’ll also hold Reward Challenges throughout the season on an irregular basis, keeping players on their toes, providing more opportunities to connect as a tribe for activities outside of Tribal Council, and introducing twists and advantages in a fair way

Additionally, we will be moving away from framing the season as a “traditional game of Survivor on a deserted island” and describing this game for what it is – an online game with a website, players competing in real-time across Canada with their phones, and voting out their friends. This may take some getting used to, but it will save your host from writing long-winded imaginary descriptions of a game “happening on an island” and so we can focus on what’s really happening.

As this season has been titled Old Meets New, we are striving to have as many registrants that have either never played before, or not in a number of years, so the final tally of new registrants will determine the total number of players and recent castaways invited to play. Our hope is that our new format is endlessly repeatable and we can continue this game on an ongoing annual or semi-annual basis, so there will be more chances to play. Even so, if you have any friends or family that love Survivor, tell them about us, send them the link, and encourage them to play. It’s a great (and very real) distraction for better or for worse, as many previous players can attest to.
